Hey, I’m Chad.

I’m a Product & Visual Designer based in Dallas, Texas. I have over ten years of design experience that includes everything from traditional print and graphic design to human centered digital product design across web and mobile. It’s been a humbling ride that has given me a well balanced approach to my work, and a genuine appreciation for my craft. I’m passionate about creating functional, authentic experiences that solve problems for people. Enjoying life is important. Let’s make it awesome.

People Have Said Nice Things About Me.

I’ve Worked Here.

Capital One Auto Finance

2017-Current | Principal Product Designer

The primary focus of my work in Capital One Auto Finance is creating world class digital experiences for the consumer-facing Auto Navigator product. Over the past three years, I’ve honed my craft as a product designer while growing in spaces like Design Operations and Leadership. I’ve built everything from minor feature enhancements to complex finance calculators across web and native mobile. I’ve been the design lead on large scale initiatives built from the ground up that span multiple teams and organizations. I’ve helped the team become well managed by fine tuning our operations and processes (ask me about JIRA - I basically invented it). I’m huge into the onboarding process and bringing new designers up to speed. I enjoy mentoring junior designers and paying it forward. I know the team and the ecosystem at the enterprise level. More importantly, I know what it takes to bring designs to life from concept to development to the consumer.

Capital One Home Loans

2016-2017 | Principle Product Designer

While I was in the Home Loans organization at Capital One, I had the opportunity to design for a ton of different spaces and grow my career professionally. I built product experiences for call center agents in the loan servicing department. I led the design for Capital One’s consumer facing mortgage website. On top of creating digital experiences, I got to redesign our mortgage statements (ask me about getting my own mortgage statement - it’s awesome). I branded a series of local recruiting events in Dallas. I was heavily involved in our DDP recruiting program, traveling to universities across the country reviewing student portfolios, offering feedback and guidance while promoting the culture at Capital One. I immersed myself in the Human Centered Design process. I started learning about pattern libraries and design systems. I was trained in Service Design, and had the privilege of working alongside true innovators in that space.

Active Network

2014-2015 | Senior Product Designer

ACTIVE Network is where I cut my teeth in Product Design. I was the senior designer for the flagship products Active.com and ActiveKids.com. I worked cross functionally with Product, Tech, SEO, Research, the and the business to deliver complex solutions in an Agile environment. More importantly I cranked out some really fun work that I’m proud of, and worked with great designers across the globe. Ask me about China, or the Active.com global navigation, or building the ACTIVEkids™ brand from the ground up.

AT&T

2014 | Product Designer

I did a 6 month contract at AT&T, where I worked on the redesign of the digital sales experience for the wire-line side of the business. My focus was heavy on information architecture & interaction design. I created user flows and site wireframes for the new (internal) mobile sales experience. It was an awesome experience, though admittedly, not my favorite type of design…and that’s okay.

Architecting Innovation

2013-2014 | Product Designer

Architecting Innovation was a small consultancy focused on application architecture & development. I did a lot of Visual Design at AI, including the company’s brand identity. But this is where I started getting a ton of exposure to what I now call Experience or Product Design. As a consultant, I was typically the sole creative on a project. This means I was leading the design at every phase, including research, sketches, wireframes, visual design and everything in between. I’d never even heard of Human Centered Design (yet), but it’s exactly what I was doing. We worked in Agile at AI.

Made Movement

2012-2013 | Visual Designer & Photographer

Made was my first gig out of design school, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I sat next to some extremely talented creatives that changed my life. At Made I focused on both package and web design for a variety of clients. When I wasn’t doing design work, I was shooting (and retouching) photos for the Made Collection, a boutique site featuring products made by independent, American manufacturers.
